Mayor Eric Adams arrived in court this morning in lower Manhattan, following a 57-page indictment that accuses him of accepting bribes and illegal campaign contributions.
Adams has pleaded not guilty to the five federal charges he faces.
"I'm hopeful because I did nothing wrong. That's where my hope comes from. I've said it over and over again," he stated at a media briefing Tuesday.
Adams' defense team filed a motion Tuesday requesting an investigation into potential leaks of sensitive information by prosecutors to the media. This latest filing follows an earlier motion submitted on Monday that sought to have the bribery charges dismissed.
"This is not sufficient for criminal federal liability," said Alex Spiro, counsel for Adams.
The indictment alleges Adams accepted more than $100,000 in luxury travel benefits from Turkish officials since 2016.
However, his attorney insists that Adams did not violate any laws. It's unclear if the judge will establish a potential timeline for the trial during today’s proceedings.
