Mexican restaurants across the city offered deals on food and drinks for Cinco de Mayo.
Tiny’s Cantina in Prospect Heights expected customers to flood through their doors for Cinco de Mayo celebrations.
Cinco de Mayo commemorates Mexico's victory against the French during the Battle of Puebla. It is not Mexico's independence day, which is just a few months away on Sept. 16.
Tiny’s Cantina Chef Cenobio Canalizo prepared food that was expected to be served for the festivities. He said popular dishes served are everything from tacos, fajitas, tortillas and even corn on the cob. He even showed News 12 the way he makes margaritas back home -- not processed and without a blender. He said he brought a piece of home to Brooklyn.
"I’m so happy. I’m very excited. I’m waiting to see everyone from different countries. It’s not just a Mexican celebration. Everybody is welcomed to Tiny’s Cantina and enjoy traditional Mexican food. I try to keep the consistencies. Very authentic Mexican food, and I was so happy to see everyone walk through this door," Canalizo said.
Tiny’s Cantina expected to see about 200 patrons Friday. In celebration of the holiday, the restaurant offered $1 chicken tacos.
