New York City officials are helping residents beat the heat by opening over 500 cooling centers over the weekend.
A heat advisory is in effect across New York City until Sunday night. As temperatures peaked above 90 on Friday, many residents say they are bracing for more extreme heat.
The city plans to open 45 schools on Sunday to serve as cooling centers as libraries are closed. Residents can find the closest location by calling 311.
