The Parks Department is proposing a new rule that would raise the penalty for illegal dumping from $1,000 to $5,000 for a first offense, with a $10,000 fine for each subsequent violation within a 12-month period.
The proposal comes in response to growing concerns over the impact of illegal dumping on parklands and neighborhoods.
One area that has seen its fair share of illegal dumping is the Jewel Streets neighborhood, also known as "The Hole." This area has become notorious for illegal disposal of various items, ranging from vehicles to household trash.
