New York City residents are bracing for potentially serious flooding as the remnants of Hurricane Ida are set to move through the area Wednesday. 

A flash flood watch is in effect through Thursday at 2 p.m., and New York City has issued a travel advisory for Wednesday morning through Thursday morning. 

Residents in the area are encouraged to stay inside as the roadways are expected to be very dangerous.

Flood conditions have the potential to also impact mass transit.

It is important to have a flood plan, which could include staying at a relative’s home at higher ground or taking measures to keep water out of homes.

For residents in flood-prone areas, sandbags are advised to keep water away.

Residents in the area should avoid driving if possible. If driving is necessary, flood-prone areas should be avoided.

Any downed wires should be reported immediately.
