Grief and solidarity rippled through the community as New Yorkers gathered to honor, two young sailors killed on a Mexican naval ship that struck the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday.
Cadet América Yamilet Sanchez and sailor Adam Jair Marcos were aboard the vessel when it crashed into the bridge.
Hundreds are expected to gather at the vigil and mourn the two lives lost.
The ship remains near the crash site and now serves as a somber reminder of the tragedy.
"I felt an immediate sense of somber respect, "said Eric Moen, a Dumbo resident who visited the scene. "New York wants to make people successful. We don't like to see when things go wrong."
Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board boarded the vessel earlier Tuesday as part of an ongoing investigation.
