Newark mayor condemns violence following shooting that left 9 injured

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka asked for a moment of silence during his re-swearing-in ceremony on Friday to honor the victims of a mass shooting in the city Thursday night.
Nine people were injured in a drive-by shooting in the Brick City. All are expected to be OK. Police say they range in age from 17 to 68 years old.
Baraka also issued a statement condemning the violence.
“Last night’s shooting was a despicable act of violence that will not be tolerated. We are investigating this incident thoroughly and will work to bring the individuals that wounded our residents and defiled our streets to justice,” Baraka said.
Police say the vehicle used in the crime is a white Honda Pilot that was stolen out of Jersey City. Police now have that vehicle in their possession.
Law enforcement officials are expected to hold a news conference on Monday at 10 a.m. with more updates on the shooting.
