A newborn baby was abandoned inside a women's restroom at a ShopRite located in White Plains' City Center shopping complex, according to the White Plains Department of Public Safety.
Emergency personnel were called to 13 City Place early Sunday morning.
Police say paramedics rushed to the baby's aid while officers secured the scene.
The newborn was rushed to White Plains Hospital and was listed in stable condition as of Sunday afternoon, according to officials.
The White Plains Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the incident as a potential child-abandonment case.
Officials say the Harrison Police Department and Westchester County Police K9 teams are actively searching for the person who abandoned the infant.
The White Plains Department of Public Safety is reminding residents of New York State's "Safe Haven" law. The law is designed to prevent tragic incidents similar to Sunday's and to ensure the safety of newborns.
Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the White Plains Police Department at 914-422-6111.
