A number of newly elected judges were sworn in Tuesday at state Supreme Court in downtown Brooklyn.
The judges are taking the bench at a time when the Brooklyn District Attorney's office continues to investigate allegations of corruption in the judicial system. One spot under a close watch is the Brooklyn Surrogate Court, which is the focal point of investigations into corruption and political patronage. Taking a spot on the Surrogate Court are Judge Margarita Lopez Torres and Judge Frank Seddio. Seddio's judgeship is under fire because voters claim they were denied the right to a fair election.
Mayor Bloomberg and District Attorney Charles Hynes attended the swearing in. The judges that were sworn in will serve at various Brooklyn courts including state Supreme Court and Brooklyn Family Court.
