A grandmother in the Bronx is pleading for the public's help finding her 13-year-old granddaughter and her friend, who have been missing since Monday morning.
"This is day five of them being missing. Let me know she's safe, let me know she's alive," says Sandra Smith
Smith says she last saw her granddaughter, Destiny Cook, who lives with her on East 141st Street around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. Smith was dropping off Destiny and her friend Kaliyah off with Kaliyah's godfather at his apartment in Brooklyn on Lafayette Avenue for a sleepover.
She adds that on Monday morning, Kaliyah's godfather went to get breakfast for the girls and came back to find them missing.
Smith reported Destiny and Kaliyah missing to the police on Monday and hung flyers of the missing girls across Brooklyn. Smith says she's only gone missing once before when she was trying to get to her grandmother's office in downtown Manhattan.
"Kaliyah is a kind of chronic runaway child. She does this often, and she goes out to Coney Island, to Marlboro projects, but Destiny does not know anybody out there," Smith explains.
Smith says Kaliyah's godfather saw the 13-year-old post on Snapchat Thursday saying something about the flyers being fake. However, there is currently no sign of Destiny's whereabouts.
"No posts, no phone call. Please bring her home to me, safe and alive," Smith says.
The family and police are asking anyone with information about Kaliyah or Destiny to call Crimestoppers.
