New York Attorney General Letitia James is warning car owners about thieves targeting Hyundai and Kia vehicles.
The attorney general says the vehicles, made between 2011 and 2022, don't have anti-theft devices, which makes them vulnerable to being stolen.
James said Thursday's alert comes after a surge in Kia and Hyundai thefts caused by a dangerous challenge spreading on TikTok and other social media platforms.
The challenge shows people how to hotwire the cars, and challenges people to steal them.
James says she is urging Hyundai and Kia to fix the flaws with their cars.
