New York Attorney General Letitia James issued a warning letter to Brooklyn-based lab LabQ Diagnostics Monday on falsely representing a 48-hour turnaround time for COVID-19 results.
Officials say consumers have been waiting over 96 hours for their test results even though the company advertises that consumers can expect results within 48 hours. The letter to LabQ requests it immediately updates its signage at testing sites and on the company’s website to accurately reflect the wait time.
AG James asks any consumer who believes a lab or other testing facility is making misleading statements about their turnaround time to file a complaint.
LabQ released a statement saying:
"While we pride ourselves on quick and reliable results, our current turnaround times have been impacted by surging demand for COVID testing. In anticipation of higher holiday demand we adjusted staffing accordingly but the seemingly rapid spread of the Omicron variant has pushed demand even higher and strained our capacity. We apologize to our patients as, like other labs, our turnaround times have slipped to as much as 5 days. We are working diligently to get our turnaround times back to the 24-36 hour average we have consistently maintained in the past. We understand the strain this puts on patients and we are doing everything possible to live up to the highest standards of patient care."
