The coronavirus vaccine is now being distributed to health professionals in local clinics and private practices across the state.
It is the latest rollout to immunize public health care workers and physicians in outpatient settings who are exposed daily to the public.
University Diagnostic Medical Imaging at the Hutchinson Metro Center is preparing to receive its shipment of vaccine doses.
As the vaccine distribution continues, Mayor Bill de Blasio says he wants to expand efforts. He says his goal is to vaccinate a million New Yorkers by the end of the month.
“I want in the month of January, in the next few weeks, I want us to start to vaccinate educators and school staff. I want to see us vaccinate first responders of all kinds – cops, firefighters, across the spectrum,” said de Blasio.
To make this happen, the city plans to increase its vaccine sites from 125 to 160 by the weekend.
New pop-up sites and vaccine hubs are being created to operate seven days a week to vaccinate as many eligible New Yorkers against the coronavirus.
