The New York Blood Center is partnering with breweries across the city to donate blood in exchange for a pint of beer.
The Brooklyn Brewery hosted a blood drive with the New York Blood Center in hopes to combat the ongoing blood shortage. Donors had the option to donate a pint of blood, as well as donate through a double red cell machine where only qualified donors can donate blood cells that count for double blood supply and help treat cancer patients.
Earlier this month, the New York Blood Center declared a blood emergency, and representatives say that the Blood Center is operating on a two- to three-day supply – less than half of the normal five- to seven-day supply.
Donors who donate at the Brooklyn Brewery can grab a coupon for a free pint of beer or beverage of choice at participating breweries. The promotion ends Sept. 10.
