The man behind Melville-based John's Crazy Socks will be recognized Monday by the New York State Senate and Assembly on World Down Syndrome Day.

The global awareness day observed by the United Nations is to support people with down syndrome, their families and their advocates.

It was the dream of John Cronin, who has down syndrome, to start a sock business with his father, Mark.

The world's largest sock store now offers 4,000 different types of socks and employs 34 people – 22 of which have different abilities.

To commemorate World Down Syndrome Day on March 21, John's Crazy Socks now offers socks with "3/21" imprinted on them.

Mark Cronin says their goal is to show what people with different abilities can do.

"One of the lines we repeat: ‘Don't be blinded by someone's limitations. Be awed by their possibilities,'" Mark Cronin says.

The socks that commemorate World Down Syndrome Day are available to purchase here, and 5% of the earnings will go to the Special Olympics and National Down Syndrome Society.
