Several women came to Red Hook Park Saturday to try out for the New York Sharks, a women's professional full-tackle football team.
The team is the longest-running professional women's league in the world.
Former Jets fullback Tony Richardson made an appearance at practice to show his support.
"A lot of people look at football as a male-dominated sport, but we have these ladies out here who put the time in, who have a tremendous work ethic and they can have a lot of skills," he says. "If they want to play, they should be able to play."
The Sharks play every Saturday. Their homes games are played at Floyd Bennett Field.
The women who tried out will find out by the end of next week whether or not they made the team.
