NYC agencies brace for potential flooding, with heavy rainfall on the way

The city’s emergency flood plan has been activated and the MTA says it will be conducting checks on subway cars while increasing the amount of response crews.

A week of intense weather is on the way for New York City, with conditions that could give residents some unwanted flooding.
Less than one year ago, businesses and cars were flooded due to severe rainfall on Knickerbocker Avenue. Now, city officials are taking extra steps to make sure that the flooding can be handled well.
The city’s emergency flood plan has been activated and the MTA says it will be conducting checks on subway cars while increasing the amount of response crews.
For Brooklyn business like Brooklyn Queens Furniture and Things, they hope they don't have to relive what happened to them before.
"It got up to like, maybe a foot and a half. It started moving cars," said George Diaz, son of the owner of Brooklyn Queens Furniture and Things. "What we do now is make sure the doors are closed and the doors [have] plass
The FDNY is preparing to respond to flood and rainfall calls, including for rescues of people trapped in cars, basements, elevators and any gas or building collapse incidents as well.
The Department of Environmental Protection and partner agencies will spread out across the city to inspect catch basins in areas prone to flooding.
