NYC Department of Education to kick-start new office for foster care students
Starting next school year, the city's Department of Education will have its first-ever office for students in foster care.
The DOE says it'll be hiring nine new staff members for this role. As of now, three offers have already been made.
This comes after several families and advocacy groups called on the mayor and Schools Chancellor David Banks to make good on a promise to increase support for foster care students.
At least six of the positions will solely serve the students while two will work on addressing issues impacting the students and those in temporary housing.
