A New York Knicks star is giving back to the community that took him to stardom.
Taj Gibson is a Brooklyn native who spent his early life perfecting his craft all the way to the NBA, and on Saturday, he shared that opportunity with kids.
Brooklyn children were given the opportunity to reach for greatness in a tournament as a part of Mayor de Blasio’s plan for neighborhood safety, in partnership with the Taj Gibson Foundation.
Organizers of the event hope more events like this will encourage an end to the violence in New York City streets while offering resources to those in the community.
The outreach didn’t end with the tournament. Organizers say they are also giving flyers for future basketball tournaments happening at the Taj Gibson Basketball Court in Brooklyn, as well as a paid internship.
