The New York City Marathon is kicking off on Sunday, and one runner is ready to take on the 26.2-mile track for the second time for a cause near and dear to his heart.
Greg Furlong, a drummer by day, says he’s always been a lifelong runner.
He also enjoys giving back – he says in his spare time, he works to help feed New Yorkers that are hungry.
Now, he’s running on the NY City Harvest team, fundraising for a cause that impacts many New Yorkers – food insecurity.
“I don’t wake up or go to bed hungry and I am fortunate for that, but so many people do,” said Furlong. “It is necessary, everyone needs to give back a bit. In NYC there is so much food but distribution of it doesn’t make sense. We step in, get people to volunteer to collect it, pack it, and move it.
