Loved ones and the Bangladeshi community in the Parkchester section of The Bronx are mourning the death of 36-year-old Officer Didarul Islam, a father of two with a third child on the way.
Islam had served with the NYPD for three and a half years and was known for his dedication both on the job and in his personal life.
Authorities say he was among four people killed by 27-year-old Shane Tamura, who opened fire inside the office building at 345 Park Place in Midtown Manhattan.
An immigrant from Bangladesh, Islam was an active member of Masjid Bilal in Parkchester. Loved ones say he was a kind and reliable man who showed up whenever people needed help.
