346ds agoLines formed outside testing centers in New York City on Sunday as parents prepared to send their kids back to school.
New York state reached a record high of new cases Saturday at 85,476. With this recent spike, New York City students are being required to present negative COVID-19 tests before returning to classes on Monday.
This is part of Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams’ new "test to stay" model. It allows asymptomatic vaccinated students who are considered a direct contact back into schools after presenting a negative test.
The city Department of Education also sent out an email to its staff on Sunday encouraging them to get tested. The email included a list of sites that these employees would have priority at, including NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in the Bronx
One parent lined up at the site said she will have to present her twin sons’ negative tests at school before they can step back into the classroom.
However, Lincoln Hospital is offering PCR tests and not rapid, so some families may not receive their results back before Monday as required.
