New York City's summer lifeguards will see a pay raise thanks to a new deal struck between the city and District Council 37.
The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation has reached a new deal with DC 37, the city's largest public sector employee union.
The deal raises the pay rates for new and second-year seasonal lifeguards to approximately $21.26 an hour.
The department also announced that all lifeguards working through mid-August are eligible to receive a $1,000 bonus. The Parks Department will also once again offer a mini-pool specific lifeguard certification for staff making it more accessible for New Yorkers to secure a job as a lifeguard.
