In addition to FEMA centers, the city is setting up its own restoration centers to help Sandy victims, and three of them are located in Brooklyn.
The NYC restoration centers give residents in hard hit areas a direct line to city services. In Red Hook, the center is set up next to the FEMA disaster recovery site in Coffey Park. Storm victims can find out how to get assistance with food, housing, health care, finances and small business hardships at the city centers. Some Red Hook residents who were at the center today said they're frustrated that it took the city so long to set up help sites. They said that what they need most right now is their heat and hot water back.
The other two locations in Brooklyn are in Coney Island on 19th Street and Mermaid Avenue and in Gravesend on Bouck Court near Shell Road. The center in Red Hook is near Richards and Pioneer streets and is open every day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
