New York City schools Chancellor Carmen Farina announced today that graduation rates are up in the Big Apple.
For students who entered ninth grade in 2010, rates show more than 68 percent graduated in four years, an increase of 2 percent from the year before. Rates also show the dropout rate fell to more than 8 percent, a decrease of nearly 1 percent.
The newest rates show improvements among students from all groups, but disparities are still noticeable.
For black students, the graduation rate increased more than 63 percent, Hispanics more than 61 percent, Asians more than 82 percent and whites over 80 percent.
