The city is looking to crack down on the illegal sale of cannabis products with a new bill that targets landlords who rent commercial spaces to these sellers. 

The new bill, proposed by Councilmember Lynn Schulman, prohibits landlords from knowingly leasing their property to unlicensed sellers of controlled substances or tobacco products without a license. Violators will receive a warning from the sheriff and are subject to penalties. 

"By implementing strict regulations and increasing enforcement efforts and empowering our agents with necessary tools, we can dismantle the networks that enable these enterprises to flourish," said Schulman. "I also want to point out that there are members of the public that are trying to get legit licenses for these businesses, and this is preventing them from doing so."

The Sheriff's Department will also submit a monthly report to the City Council detailing their enforcements against these illegal cannabis sale locations.
