NYCHA began work on a roughly $100 million project to replace the rooftops of its Red Hook Houses Tuesday.
Residents have complained of leaky roofs for years following Superstorm Sandy, which ravaged the neighborhood.
NYCHA says the roofs there have actually not been replaced for almost 30 years. Many have bad seals that allow mold to grow, cause paint to peel and lead to other health issues.
The upgrade is expected to be complete in November 2019.
