NYC Housing Authority has issued a statement saying it is not responsible for event security in the wake of two shootings on NYCHA property.
In one deadly shooting, a 4-year-old was shot and killed while at a playground near a basketball tournament. Just days later, a man was shot at a crowded basketball game on NYCHA property.
NYCHA officials said that neither party had the proper permit to have those basketball games. To get a permit, officials say a resident would have to fill out an application and pay the required rental fee, which ranges from $200 to $1,000.
The housing authority also stated it has no responsibility to provide any security or other services in connection with the permit. Officials went on to say that is the sole responsibility of the person applying for the permit to get security for the event.
