Police say an East New York shooting on Wednesday killed one teen and injured another near Pennsylvania and Livonia avenues.
An 18-year-old was shot in the head and died, according to police, and a 17-year-old friend who was walking alongside him is in stable condition after a gunshot wound to his arm.
The shooting happened near P.S. 13 around the same time as class dismissal. School officials placed the building on lockdown, and parents had to wait to bring their children home.
A witness tells News 12 Brooklyn that a suspect fired at least four shots at a male victim, striking him twice in the head.
Other witnesses say the incident sprayed gunfire in several directions, prompting local residents to search for solutions.
Community advocate Juan Rodriguez called for school and church programs to give teens an alternative to violence, while East New York resident Luis Santiago seemed exasperated that the shooting happened so close to a school.
Police say they've taken three people into custody and recovered at least one gun.
