A cyclist and car passenger killed in separate incidents within the span of 12 hours in Williamsburg.
On Tuesday morning, a 64-year-old cyclist riding on Broadway near Lorimer Street was thrown from his bike after colliding with one car and was then hit by another. He suffered head trauma and was pronounced dead at Bellevue hospital.
Antonio Cruz told News 12 that his wife was parked on Broadway, opened the car door and the bike rider collided with it.
"I'm still in shock. I can't process it. It's crazy," said Cruz.
Just one block from the scene on Monday night, shattered glass and car parts littered the ground when a Mercedes Benz crashed into an MTA bus. The backseat passenger was thrown from the vehicle, according to police, and was pronounced dead at a hospital. The driver fled the scene.
Between the two crash sites is a school.
"When these kids come out of school, they're going to get hurt. God forbid somebody comes, doesn't see them, and runs them over," said Cruz.
Police tell us that all drivers involved in the cyclist crash remained on the scene.
