A 30-year-old man was killed and a 28-year-old is recovering from a shooting late Saturday night on Pitkin Avenue between Osborn and Watkins streets, the NYPD says.
Police officers arrived on the scene after 11 p.m. to find the 30-year-old with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest. The 28-year-old had a gunshot wound to the hand.
Both were transported to the hospital where the 30-year-old was pronounced dead.
The NYPD has not yet said anything about a motive in the shooting. No arrests have been made.
So far this year, the NYPD says 23 people have been shot in Brownsville.
"People treat this area like they don't care, there's nothing for anybody to do here, it’s the same old, same old all day, every day,” said one Brownsville resident. “Everything looks rundown, like there's no hope…When you give people nothing to do, this is the ending result."
