He was taken to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Neighbors spoke to News 12 and shared their sympathy for the family of the deceased.
"My condolences to them. It's unfortunate that it happened but he was a good kid," one neighbor said. "We didn't really know him well, but he was a really good kid to me from what I've seen. It's sad because we all have children. We don't want to lose our children."
The teen's friends told News 12 they were playing basketball outside on the courts when it all happened. They said the teen had his post-high school plans all laid out.
"I was at the bus stop the other day and he said he’s going to a school in Coney [Island] to try and play basketball for college," one of his friends said. "I feel bad for what happened to him."
Police say no arrests had been made as of Sunday night, but neighbors told News 12 they saw a younger boy in handcuffs walking away with officers.
A vigil has been planned in remembrance of the teen outside of the Howard Houses for Tuesday evening.
