A 74-year-old man was robbed by two armed, masked men at 1:40 a.m. in Midwood, the NYPD says. About 20 minutes later, another individual was robbed by two armed, masked men in Flatbush.
The first incident happened right in front of 1914 Avenue R. The victim told police two males approached him and displayed a firearm. Police confirmed the items stolen were the victim's cellphone and a wallet that contained $26. Police say the two males were described to be wearing all black and face masks. The perps fled eastbound on Avenue R on a moped.
"It can happen in any neighborhood, the mopeds are pretty mobile, and the worst part is the old man, I mean, that’s an easy target and they do attack old people,” said Anatoly Volfson, of Midwood.
The second incident happened at 2665 Bedford Ave. and was similar to the previous robbery. The victim told police one of the men looked to be in his 40s and was wearing a blue puffer jacket. The second man was described as in his 20s wearing an orange shirt. Both perps fled on a blue moped.
A Flatbush resident said while this is a very upsetting story, it’s not a shock.
"I feel like in this neighborhood, with the activity that's going on, it's normal," a Flatbush resident told News 12. "It shouldn't be normal, but it is."
Both locations are about 10 minutes away from each other. The NYPD says the incidents may be connected, and the investigation is ongoing.
