UPDATE 12:30 p.m. Dec. 16: The FDNY says the fire was accidental and the result of careless cooking. A smoke alarm was present but not operational, the department says.
Police say one man is dead after a house fire early Wednesday morning in Brooklyn.
According to police, officers responded to 274 Ralph Ave. in apartment #3A Wednesday at 3:47 a.m. for reports of a fire.
The FDNY was able to put out the flames, and officers found an unidentified 27-year-old man unconscious and unresponsive with burns on his body.
EMS pronounced man dead at the scene.
