A woman who was fatally hit by a car Sunday night in Brooklyn has been identified by police.
Authorities say Katherine Harris, 31, was trying to cross the street when a speeding Volvo vehicle ran the red light and hit her, then slammed into a Honda Accord near Atlantic Avenue and Henry Street just before 10 p.m.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the 27-year-old male driver has been taken into custody. Charges are pending at this time.
A person who witnessed the incident spoke to News 12 saying, “I think the guys were going about 70 miles an hour. They were just racing. This corner is famous for that.”
The 40-year-old driver inside the Accord is OK, officers said.
Witnesses tell News 12 racing in the area is a continuous problem.
