NYPD officials said Wednesday that 3D-printed ghost guns are now making their way into New York City.

They said they found several of those 3D-printed guns allegedly made by a man named Dante Hayes in Brooklyn. They say they also found parts he made and even the printers he used.

Police say he made specific parts with his printers and would buy separate metal parts needed.

All of those pieces would be put together to make a gun with no serial number, which could then be used in a crime.

Over the last few years, the NYPD said officers have found more 3D-printed guns at crime scenes.

So far, they have found 85 ghost guns this year.

"We're seeing both of those go up at the same time, store-bought guns and ghost guns. We're trying to interdict both, it means we need to be focused on the iron pipeline. We have to be focused on the new phenomenon of the plastic pipeline, which is being done at home," said NYPD Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence and Counterterrorism John Miller.

The case involving Hayes is still under investigation

One of the investigators said that a 3D-printed gun could be sold for around $1,500 while the parts needed each cost as little as $5 to print.

Officials worry that this kind of production is going to rise.
