Flatbush residents are heartbroken after learning that a 4-year-old boy fell out of a window in Flatbush Tuesday. He is in critical but stable condition.
According to police, the child was pushing on an A/C unit and fell out of a fifth-floor window at around 8:45 p.m. The structure was a six-story building on East 21st Street.
A next-door neighbor spoke with News 12 about what she heard Tuesday night when the fall took place.
"I heard the boom... then I came in the hallway because I was getting ready to go to work and I heard 'somebody call 911,'" said neighbor Trena Taylor.
Members of the NYPD were seen at the apartment speaking with the family of the 4-year-old boy.
Neighbors tell News 12 they believe that trees located outside of the fifth-floor window broke the child's fall. They say they're grateful he's alive and praying for his recovery.
"It's hard I hate to blame the parents, but the parents are in charge," said local resident Vivian. "For a young kid that young, they should have somebody watching him."
Police say no criminality is suspected.
