Police have identified the victim of a fatal Boerum Hill stabbing that took place over the weekend as 83-year-old Ramon Cintron – a resident of the Wyckoff Gardens housing complex for more than 20 years.
The NYPD is searching for Joevani Vale, 26, who is accused of slashing a 31-year-old woman in the thigh on Saturday before 1:30 p.m. She's expected to be OK. According to police, Vale then fatally stabbed Cintron in the arm and neck just before 2:30 p.m. inside an elevator at Wyckoff Gardens.
Neighbors say Vale and Cintron resided in the same building. However, police have yet to confirm this.
"I know both of them. I know the old man since 1971, and I know the other man since birth,” a resident told News 12.
Cintron’s brother told News 12 that prior to the attack, the 83-year-old had just left the hospital. The two planned to meet each other on Saturday, but never got the chance to.
Residents at the building described Cintron as the godfather of their community.
“He was a good guy. Everybody knows him. It’s the last person you would expect something like this to happen to,” said a resident.
"I just saw his brother and gave him my condolences. He feels very bad about it,” said another resident.
Vale, who authorities say is still at large, has three prior arrests including assault in 2020, forceful touching in 2016 and public lewdness in 2015.
Police have increased their presence in the neighborhood and set up a command post just feet away from where Cintron was killed.
