An armed suspect was fatally shot by police officers early Sunday morning in East Flatbush, the NYPD said.

According to NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey, officers patrolling on East 52nd Street and Church Avenue witnessed two men fighting.

One of the men pointed a gun at the other during the dispute. Police say the armed suspect fled toward Church Avenue after officers tried to approach him.

An officer Tased the man and ordered him to drop the weapon. It briefly stunned him, but he kept going and ran back toward East 52nd Street.

"The officers gave further commands for the male to drop the gun, and they fired their weapons," said Maddrey.

The officers attempted to treat the victim at the scene. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

About an hour and a half after the incident, another individual entered the hospital with a graze wound in his leg, and said he was in the vicinity of the shooting, according to Maddrey.

A weapon was recovered at the scene.

It was not immediately clear what led to the argument. Police had not released the victim's name as of Sunday evening.
