The NYPD says a body that was found in a Flatlands home was ruled a homicide.

Police say they were sent to 1886 New York Ave. Thursday night for a wellness check.

When they got inside the apartment, they found a 26-year-old female with marks on her neck.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Crime scene technicians returned to the scene Friday night to collect additional evidence.

Residents tell News 12 they can't believe something like this happened in their neighborhood.

"Wow, been here 39 years and nothing ever happens like that," said Johanna, a resident.
