With the Jewish holiday of Passover beginning at sunset tonight, many local synagogues are seeing an increase in police presence in response to safety concerns.
Police hope to deter attacks such as last month's shooting at a Jewish school in France that left four people dead.
Riverdale residents who live in the vicinity of the conservative synagogue Adath Israel say they are grateful for the increase in patrols.
The NYPD's effort is similar to the security boost around mosques during the month of Ramadan every year.
