A man riding a moped in the Longwood section of the Bronx was struck by a driver Saturday afternoon and pronounced dead at a hospital, police said.
The NYPD said a woman who was driving a Honda Civic collided with the victim around 2:22 p.m.
"There was a loud bang on the building. See, I am on the third floor and I felt it," said witness Ismael Roman.
A witnesses who did not want to be on camera told News 12 the car was going the wrong way on Fox Street when it crashed into the moped at the intersection of Intervale Avenue.
"We just saw the car coming out against the traffic. And then it was so quick... we heard the boom," she said.
The impact sent the moped driver several feet from his vehicle. Witness Cesar Garcia said the moped operator was severely injured.
"The guy was on the floor, just a lot of blood. Leg broken," he recalled.
"He was just beat up. No helmet, no nothing. Really beat up," Roman said. He added that people helped pull the driver out of her car.
"She was conscious at the time and everything. She was able to speak, as far as I know," Roman said. "Some other guys pulled her out. That's when I opened the back door to see if there was any kids behind the vehicle. And I basically was on the phone with 911 until they arrived."
Police said the man who was operating the moped was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln where he was pronounced dead.
The NYPD said the operator of the Honda Civic was taken into police custody and sent to a hospital with minor injuries.
Sources said this was a possible case of road rage.
The NYPD's Highway District Collision Investigation Squad was probing the crash as a homicide as of Saturday night.
