According to NYPD statistics, murders are trending down citywide compared to this time last year. But in the 73rd Precinct, there's been at least 16 murders. Last year at this time, there was six.
News 12 previously reported two fatal stabbings on Wednesday, just blocks and hours apart.
News 12 spoke with assistant program manager Winston Grant of anti-violence group 'Brownsville In Violence Out' about the recent stabbings and statistics.
“My team, we are on the streets every day trying to combat some of these things that happen. We’re always trying to come up with new ideas and do different things," said Grant.
News 12 spoke with a mother in the area who was alarmed by the recent stabbings and statistics.
"I think it’s ridiculous and I think it’s scary to raise children in that environment,” she said.
Grant says their partners plan on hosting a community response to address the recent stabbings.
