The NYPD dedicated two new boats today in honor of fallen officers.
At a dedication ceremony at the NYPD Harbor Unit in Sunset Park, the names of two officers were displayed on the sides of the two boats named in their honor.
Police Officer Harry R. Ryman was shot to death in 1980 when he tried to stop a group of men from stealing a car. Joseph P. McCormack was killed in 1983 by an emotionally disturbed man armed with a shotgun.
The loved ones of Ryman and McCormack say they are happy to know that the sacrifices of the officers were never forgotten.
The boats will be used for more than just search and rescue. They are also equipped to expand counterterrorism operations by the NYPD.
