Members of the NYPD gathered at the 73rd Precinct Monday to honor a Brooklyn officer who died of an illness related to his work following the Sept. 11 terror attack in Manhattan.
Officer Gary Mausberg worked out of the 73rd Precinct for 15 years. A plaque in his honor will now sit inside the precinct.
He was among the first responders to the World Trade Center and worked on the recovery effort at Ground Zero. The work led to an illness that killed him in 2008.
Officers say the plaque will be a reminder of Mausberg's legacy for years to come.
