NYPD hopes to reduce number of shootings by spreading gun violence awareness

NYPD held an event on Wednesday at the 48th Precinct to talk with young adults about gun violence and how to stay safe.

Youth violence is the leading cause of crime in the Bronx, according to police.

As a way to prevent more teenagers from becoming victims of violence, the NYPD Community Affairs Department offers programs like Blue Chips that provide relationships with law enforcement and aim to create a positive distraction.

Police say there have been 55 minors arrested with firearms in the Bronx so far this year.
