The NYPD is beefing up security and hoping to combat crime with a new police tower in Soundview.
The SkyWatch tower is keeping an eye out over Story Avenue and the city Housing Authority's Monroe Houses following two shootings within the last two weeks.
The most recent crime was Saturday afternoon when police say a 17-year-old was shot inside a stairwell at the apartment complex. A man also took a bullet to the shoulder last Tuesday in the same area.
The 43rd Precinct is right up the block, but officials say it was officers from Police Service Area #8 who put up the tower. It's unclear how long it will stay.
