A man who was stabbed onboard a J90 shuttle bus in Cypress Hills Sunday afternoon died at a hospital, the NYPD says.
The incident happened on Crescent Street and Etna Street just before 2 p.m.
Police say the 41-year-old victim had a stab wound to the abdomen and was later pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital.
Police say there was some sort of dispute before the stabbing. They say the person of interest ran away from the scene before police arrived.
News 12 spoke with residents like Esmerelda Ortiz who says she rides that particular shuttle bus all the time.
“I used to think it was safer than the train, actually. But now, after this, I think it's everywhere. It can happen to anyone any time. It doesn’t matter. I don’t feel safe. I think I should take precaution more, be on the lookout for anything, especially since I have my kids," Ortiz said.
NYPD data shows transit crime in that area is slightly higher than in 2024. This time in 2024, there were eight incidents and this year there have been 12 incidents, not including this recent stabbing.
Longtime residents like Hatuey Fana said they're shocked.
“I’ve been here since 1985 and I’ve never seen such a thing. The things they're doing inside the bus, it’s insane," Fana said.
No arrests had been made and it was not immediately known as of Sunday night what had led to the incident.
The victim’s identity had not yet been released as of Sunday night.
