NYPD: Man lights fire in check cashing shop
A would-be robber dumped gasoline on the floor of an Ocean Hill check cashing business Saturday morning and then set it on fire.
Police say he entered Pay-O-Matic on Rockaway Avenue, poured out the gas, demanded money and threatened to light it.
When a clerk refused to hand over money, police say the suspect lit a match, dropped it on the floor and fled the business empty handed. The store sustained significant damage but no injuries were reported.
Authorities describe the suspect as a black male around 5 feet 9 inches tall. He was wearing a black jacket and carrying a black shoulder bag.
