A man used a shoelace to choke another man inside of a car in East Williamsburg, police say.

On Sept. 8, officers say a 56-year-old man was driving a white Ford van near Skillman and Kingsland avenues when the suspect began choking him with a shoelace. The suspect took control of the van while the victim hung out of the driver's side door and crashed into several cars before hitting a fence.

The suspect then took off on foot and is still on the loose.

The driver was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
